New Horizon Special School does not receive any grants or subventions from the Government of Ghana, or the Ministry of Education, and funds its entire operation by charging modest school fees; sale proceeds from items in the school shop; fund raising activities and donations from individuals and organizations.

New Horizon Special School has capacity for up to 200 pupils in the education section and sheltered workshops, however, an intake of this level will require more teachers, craft instructors, physiotherapists, as well as a speech therapist. Currently, the school cannot afford the required increase in staff due to lack of funds.

SPONSOR A CHILD (HELEN FRANÇOIS EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION)

Many of New Horizon’s pupils come from poorer homes that cannot easily bear the burden of school fees and transport fares. Whenever there is the slightest fee increase, some children are forced to drop out. Yet these children, and many more, desperately need the special education and vocational training offered by the school.

Currently, some students have been given bursaries by the school to enable them to remain at New Horizon but many more still need assistance. We have therefore set up the Helen François Educational Foundation where individuals and organisations can send a donation to sponsor a needy child (or children) so that they can attend New Horizon Special School.

Without access to attending school, children with intellectual disability are often confined to their homes, locked in rooms for hours on end, whilst their parents or guardians are at work. Your donation will ensure that these children get the opportunity to reach their full potential.
